Vacancy – Broker Development Manager




Position Overview

To open, develop and maintain sustainable business relationships with select commercial insurance brokers, in order to grow a profitable book of insurance policies underwritten by Bidvest Insurance, whilst ensuring types and classes of business written is in line with the company strategy and that all risk mitigation practices are complied with.  To meet set targets regarding the maintenance of existing business, growing new business production and managing portfolios to ensure acceptable loss ratios.

Experience and Education

► Grade 12 / Matric Certificate

► 3 year relevant degree or 4 year National diploma is essential

► FAIS Qualification (NQF level 4 / 5)

► RE5

► 5 years plus experience in a similar environment i.e. commercial insurance


► Short-term Insurance industry knowledge

► Commercial & Personal Lines

► Risk Knowledge and Risk Mitigation Experience

► Working knowledge and understanding of FAIS, FICA, TCF and PPR


► Strong interpersonal and communication skills

► Numerical skills together with financial/business acumen

► The confidence to negotiate and advise clients

► Ability to build and develop relationships and interact at all levels

► Marketing and analytical skills

► Target and trend analysis skills

► An understanding of client confidentiality

► Attention to detail skills

► IT and Report writing skills

► Decision-making ability

► Researching current developments in business and finance with specific reference to market dynamics, products and distribution

Key Responsibilities and Duties

► Identify, target and open new commercial broker opportunities.

► Build and maintain strong, sustainable relationships with decision makers and influencers at commercial brokers in your area of responsibility.

► Build strong relationships with all internal stakeholders in order to deliver efficient effective services to brokers.

► Provide support and intermediary services to 3rd party service providers.

► Evaluate new business to ensure that it meets the strategic direction of the company.

► Regularly analyze broker claims and loss reports in order to identify and carry out effective corrective actions so that a profitable portfolio is maintained.

► Resolve admin and claims queries associated with the portfolio.

► Provide operational reporting to the greater commercial team.

► Maintain good inter-branch/department communication and co-operation to grow the business.

► Where necessary, assist the product development and underwriting teams in identifying opportunities to grow the portfolio

► Manage all costs/expenses associated with relationship management in a professional and responsible manner.

► Provide system and product training to brokers whilst promoting the Bidvest products and brand.
